Versatility in French Speaking Countries

Many different versatile artists are named in the second chapter of the book Tour De Force. I will be focusing mostly on artist from Haiti. Each of these artists contain immense talents.

The First artist, Ludovic Lamothe was born in 1832. Lamothe was born in Pot-au-Prince and was a composer who studied the piano in Paris for many years.

This is a picture of Ludovic Lamothe playing on a piano with one hand. This picture is also depicted in the book Tour De Force. I like this picture because to me, it shows what he's known for as well as a bit of his confidence.

You may be asking, well how is he versatile? First of all, that's pretty rude. Secondly, as mentioned before he was both a pianist and composer. This is isn't a simple feat. Many pianist can read notes but composing an entire piece of music is an entirely different topic.

This song is called Sobo. I chose this song because it has a haunting feeling, and I find it very on brand for the date in which this would be submitted.

A more recent artist named Julio Racine, as pictured above, was born in 1945 in Port-au-Prince. The reason I consider Julio Racine to be versatile is because he was a flute player as well as an orchestral director and composer.

Out of all the videos I've watched with Julio Racine playing this one is my favorite. If you close your eyes then click play somehow, I am sure you could picture a full orchestra of different instruments that aren't being played. That's what I envisioned when I played the video. The talent alone in the composition is why I chose this video.

Wyclef Jean (51409350441).jpg

Perhaps the most famous Hatian artist, at least in todays time, is Wyclef Jean. He is known for being apart of the group the Fugees, whom alone are as versatile as it gets. He was born in Croix-des-Bouqets in 1969.

Although this isn't a Wyclef Jean song, it does feature him and I think it displays his talent and versatility well. What this video or song doesn't portray however, is the fact that he plays over 15 instruments one of which is the guitar. He grew up being a jazz player at 17 playing the upright bass guitar.
